Red Robot Labs Signs New 3rd Party Developers to Its R2 Mobile, Geo Gaming Platform

The R2 Platform Accelerates Location-Focused Mobile Games Through $2 Million in Investments and Proven Technology

MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA -- (Marketwire) -- 08/22/12 -- Red Robot Labs announced today the rapid expansion of its proprietary R2 mobile gaming platform for third party developers who are focused on games that build great gameplay experiences around a consumer's location.

The R2 platform offers developers three key elements to ensure success on its platform: 1) unique access to its location-based expertise and publishing rights under Red Robot Labs 2) funding and/or revenue share options 3) robust mobile technology -- 3D vector maps, point of interest index and regional leader boards. The company has committed more than $2 million to furthering third party mobile, location-based game development on its R2 platform, designed to increase player retention and new sources of monetization.

This proven technology suite is featured in Life Is Crime, the hit location based MMO crime game on Android and iOS. In less than one year, Red Robot has amassed millions of downloads and high venue engagement across the US, demonstrating it knows how to appeal to gamers wherever they live, work and play.

Three developers, Box of Robots, ShortRound and 50 Cubes join Asia-based Next Media and UK-based Supermono on the mobile R2 platform. Wherever their location in the world, all five developers are focused on implementing location-based technology the platform offers into their upcoming game releases due out before the end of the year. The games include: Global Outbreak (ShortRound), Fashion Match (50 Cubes) and unnamed titles from Box of Robots, Next Media and Supermono.

"When we were looking to create cool new location features into Global Outbreak, the R2 platform gave us a huge head start on the location elements in our design; only the R2 platform offered what we were looking for," said Andy Hubbard, Founder, ShortRound Games. "Red Robot is at the forefront of mobile, location-based games and we are excited to be part of their lineup."

"There is a huge pool of talented game developers who developed for consoles and social games that have approached us with awesome location-based game ideas. With phone and tablet power capabilities rapidly increasing, alongside player expectations, we aim to be at the center of this growth, by investing and collaborating with all of our R2 dev partners, including our three newest teams: Box of Robots, ShortRound and 50 Cubes. This is our first step towards our goal of becoming the Steam of mobile," said Mike Ouye, Co-founder and CEO, Red Robot Labs.

"Red Robot Labs has activated the gaming community around the world with its top-notch location-based mobile technology and fun, original, console quality-content," said Mitch Lasky, General Partner at Benchmark Capital and investor in Red Robot Labs. "By broadening the platform to third party developers, R2 is on its way to becoming the foremost location gaming platform in the world."

In addition to expanding its global reach through games featured on the R2 platform, Red Robot Labs will unveil the first look of its own new location-based game at this year's Penny Arcade Expo (PAX). Taking place in Seattle on August 31-September 2, gamers can go hands-on with the upcoming title slated for release on iOS and Android platforms this fall in booth # 115. For more information, visit
