Today, only three days after the iPad hit the streets, Sybase has announced that Sybase Afaria will support security and management of the knock-out device. Business specific apps will be developed that allow the Mobile Information Worker to take full advantage of the new device. These will make a knock-out combination!.. a great device that has a proven OS and a device that can run Enterprise Built Applications on a large screen. This is not to take anything away from iPhone in The Enterprise, where the same users can carry a smaller device but with a limited screen and both running the same application, though with different User Interface views on the same data. In fact the pair of devices complement each other perfectly!

Both Management & Security are inter-dependent and if not in place, your valuable enterprise mobile asset of the iPad is vulnerable as soon at it is goes 'on-the-road'. I use the wording valuable, not really due to the cost of the actual device, as that is minor when compared to the corporate applications and data deployed on the device itself.

Think.. What damage could be done if that device & the data within the iPad got into the hands of your competition of even worse, someone malicious?

Mobile Device Management to anyone seriously using the iPad in the Enterprise, should mean SECURE management of DATA, DEVICE and APPLICATIONS.

Afaria already secures and manages, iPhone, Windows Mobile, Windows, Blackberry etc
